In the last two weeks, I have had conversations with at least five different companies who have technicians or mechanics in their company that makes close to, or more than $100,000.00.
It is entirely possible to begin a career today as an electrician or HVAC Service technician, and within six or seven years be making $100k. However worth noting is that all things being as they are today, $100k will be a hell of a lot more in 2022!
Where else can the average guy make that kind of money? Wait! Strike that. The average guy will make a little less. However, the exceptionally driven and enterprising can be quite successful.
For the record, the money is either in service work or leadership.
If the company where you are working wouldn’t dream of paying $35/hr for a mechanic that can–meet with a customer, diagnose, solve the problem, and collect the check, all the while keeping a smile on the customer’s face––then you may be working for the wrong company.
On my desk right now, and willing to chart a path to $60,000 to $110,000ish
- HVAC Service Technician
- Electrical Service Technician
- Drywall Finish Working Foreman
- Mechanical Insulator
- Machine Tool Electrical Fabricator
- Millwright-Mechanical Assembler
Alternatively, there are management jobs (not necessarily requiring a college degree) that make the same money
- Operations Manager – Distributor
- Project Manager – Electrician
- Estimator – Flooring
- Heavy Equipment Mechanic Superintendent
