Should I go to college? What is the true cost of college? Is it a good investment? What is the cost of opportunity lost? On the whole college graduates make more money, but how much, and will it guarantee me a job that I love? Clearly there is value, but is it something other than the education that brings it? Can we quantify it?
I listen to a radio podcast called Freakonomics. In this particular episode they explore going to college from multiple perspectives. As it turns out, trade schools may actually be the best investment.
The point that stood out the most for me is that if you are going to go to college, you should go to learn something. Too many people go to college just to get through it and get a job. If that is your only intention, then you should really think hard about it first.
It’s a great listen. I highly recommend it.
