An unhappy job seeker

I get this email in response to an eblast that I sent out advertising a warehouse position that we were trying to fill:

i want to let you know i have sent my resume to your company, i have extensive concrete, and building trade experience, as well as a degree in civil engineering, i called to see why i was passed over and the response i got was they only had one concrete company to work with and i had in the past told them i wont work for him, i find it hard to believe you’d send me this e mail and furthermore think your people really don’t know what they are doing, Please take me off your so called list for employment, I can find my own work quite well Thank You.

Here is my reply.  I posted it here because I’m guessing that if one person took the time to write then there are likely more that feel the same way and would benefit from the explanation.

Jeremy,

I’m sorry for the confusion.  We are not a job service.  We are hired/retained by a number of companies to hire on their behalf.  It is not unusual for us to only have one of a particular trade at a given time.  Otherwise there could be a conflict of interest.  You see, we promise each company that we will only send them the best person for their particular opening that we know.  Our corresponding promise to you (which perhaps is not always articulated so well) is that we will only call you if we have something wherein you are the best candidate that we know for a particular opening, thereby not wasting your time.

Normally it works out really well unless someone like yourself was never told what to expect.

As for the emails, they go to everybody. We have no way to mail to folks based on individual criteria.

I’m sorry for the misunderstanding.
