A letter to the guy who screamed at us for offering a drywall job
A letter to the guy who called our office (twice) and screamed at us because we were offering a drywall job that paid $17 to $20 per hour.
I feel bad. Apparently you thought our craigslist post was meant specifically for you. Trust me it was not. It was intended for an entirely different type of person.
The person we hoped to attract has a much better attitude. To begin with, he’s positive and upbeat. He does drywall because he loves it. He’s proud of his craft. He sets a great example and brings those around him up. As a matter of fact he avoids negative people on the job. He’ll keep quiet when he’s around guys like you, but that’s just because he doesn’t want you to bring him down. If he left his last job, it was because he had someone like you for as manager and couldn’t stand the negativity.
Our guy doesn’t mind getting an honest wage for honest work. Oh sure.. he may prefer to work by the piece because he’s just that good and he knows that with piece work he can almost always make more money. But hey. $18 in the middle of the winter season is better than sitting on the couch so he’s happy to be out making new contacts and creating another picture of art for his portfolio.
The guy we’re looking for hasn’t burned up every major drywall player in Western New York. He hasn’t bumped chests with the handful of greats in town. Mark, Cliff, Al and Tim would all invite him to be a part of their team if that’s what he wanted to do. Our guy has a great reputation with whatever few and well chosen folks that he’s worked with. As a matter of fact, his previous employers all want him back. They want him on their team.
Our guy is smart enough to understand what a good Employment agency does and the value they can bring to your career if they are used judiciously.
No… the offer wasn’t meant for you.
