Why is no one asking what job seekers want?
Our strategy meeting this morning was about what companies want in an employee. Nikkie, our newest team member jumped in, “Why is no one is asking what job seekers want?” So we talked about that for a minute and I have to say, the answer was not so obvious. As professional recruiters maybe we’ve lost sight of it a little bit. Maybe we need direction.
So tell me… What do you want from companies? What’s most important? And why?
I’m looking forward to learning. Please leave lots of comments down below!
How about stop thinking any given skilled tradesman can just be replace at a drop of a hat, for starts. Also , how many times have you heard there is no trained workers. There is lots of us, you don’t pay wades that would interest us! Respect for what a person can bring to the table. How about this as well, qualified person can also train the next generation. Every body forgot that idea too! I could go on but whats the point, no stewartship anymore. just take and don’t put back culture. Anything else you would to know just… Read more »
Meaningful work that challenges me – being able to measure success. I like to be stretched vs monotonous tasks. Work life balance is also important to me in this stage of life – remote work capabilities and flexible scheduling is something that should be earned through trust of employees and type of work. I’d also say an ethical company and competitive pay – now and for the future for retirement.
I mean I basically want a magical unicorn from my employer. Not that it should be a magical unicorn but that’s what it is. I want an employer who isn’t afraid to advertise their offering salary or salary range so I can determine if I’m wasting my time applying or not. I want an employer who recognizes that I am a human first and an employee second. That if I die tomorrow my family would be lost but my company would just replace me. I want good benefits. Not just health benefits but fringe benefits like good amounts of paid… Read more »
Hard question to answer. Maybe because it’s an employer’s market. Employers set the conditions of the game and potential applicants have to step up to the bar. But that’s probably a very shallow answer and requires a real study, maybe even survey companies and ask them their thoughts.
I don’t know Real, the US unemployment is 3.6%, which I believe is the lowest its been since 1969. I’m thinking its an employee market.
I like your idea about surveying companies. We’ve done that and the overwhelming answer is that companies will pay for folks that are a good investment. The conundrum is that (other than money) the companies don’t really know what employees want. They get it wrong. And their investment (employee) ends up taking a job with the competition.
I think that would depend on were you are in life.if you are a younger applicant you may be looking for different things than say someone who’s been in the work force a while. As an older applicant , stability, growth both company growth and personal growth, for advancement. Flexable as when your a bit older you have appointments either for yourself or perhaps you are caring for an elder parent. Were as a younger applicant may need time for kid appointments. The ability to swap days or adjustable work schedule in today’s world has to be a buggy. As always… Read more »
