A young skull full of mush
Logic tells us that a little schooling does not guarantee success in the trades.
Sqrft recruiters spend a fair amount of time visiting our local trade and vocational centers of education—interviewing—on the look out for kids who have that certain spark so we can help guide them onto a successful construction trades career path.
One of the obstacles we face with kids is that no one wants to be their first, or even their second employer. Most of us are reluctant to invest time teaching some kid the basics about how “real life” works.
That’s why we like farm kids, and kids who play travel hockey. It used to be Eagle Scouts and kids who had paper routes (but now I’m showing my age). We like them because they’ve had responsibility and had a chance to fight through a bit of adversity. They have determination and a good attitude. These are the ones we look for. The ones who are worth investing in.
Once we find them, we need to figure out what to do with them. Admittedly it’s difficult to charge my regular finders fee for them because more than likely their real value is somewhere in the future.
So here’s the good will offer: You invest in a young skull full of mush and I’ll waive any referral fees.
