Sanding Mechanic for Cabinet Shop
I am a 5th generation artisan. My company designs, builds, and installs all of our own work. The most impressive of our work begins in our modest 9,000 sqrft shop in downtown Buffalo. We have 3 in the shop and 3 in the field. The kitchens, bathrooms, and additions that we do are in the top 1% of the Buffalo marketplace.
We need to hire someone to someday run the sanding portion of our cabinet finishing operation.
If you are very experienced—let’s talk. Alternatively, if you are completely entry level but believe that this job is made for you—let’s talk.
Over the years, we’ve learned a few things:
- We need someone who genuinely cares. Please don’t take this job for the sake of just having a job. Everything we do is of the highest possible level of perfection. Everyone that is here fully depends on the person working next to him (or her). We need to know that each of us has done his job precisely as expected. A cabinet is sanded 3 or 4 times as it progresses through its finish coats. Mistakes that are made in the finishing department may not reveal themselves for as long as three weeks into the process. When that finish needs to be removed for a do-over, it can be devastating.
- We need to hire someone who is capable of grasping the big picture. Some folks work better with less variables. This is a job with a lot of variables. You work with wood. Each and every square inch of surface is different than the next. Several hundred panels make…a kitchen. Strategically placing a flaw (or many flaws) could be the difference between a really great project and stunning project. Decisions on how that kitchen goes together starts with our Cabinet Finisher.
- You need to be patient, artistic (perhaps), truly laid back, and maybe just a little OCD—all at the same time. It’s a deep rooted personality thing. You can’t fake it.
- You need to be a grown up, with grown up responsibilities …and a car.
- We’re all in this together. Your official job would be that of a Finisher. However for maybe 20% of your time you may be needed to do other things—run errands, pick up materials, count inventory, load or unload a truck. The right person will understand and embrace our vision and purpose, and be ready to do whatever’s necessary to take the company there.
- We want to like the person we hire. We work in the same room together. We listen to one radio station and enjoy each other’s company. ..nuff said.
In it for you?
- Other than the pride of being a part of some really great creations…
- We’ll pay you according to your ability, and give you vacation and benefits that we can talk about when it’s relevant.
